About Us…………..
Some of you will already be familiar with our designs and have many of them in your own collections. But for those of you who are new visitors let me explain how it all began……
My father had an antique business for many years and so I grew up surrounded by lots of beautiful and interesting old treasures. My favourite cupboard was filled with vintage teddy bears and other stuffed toys. All of which seemed to have a personality of there own and had the most wonderful charming expressions . In my father's antique shop I found a beautiful old miniature teddy bear which was a 1930's Schuco teddy. I was fascinated by his size and character and set about designing my own pattern and making a miniature mohair teddy bear.
This was the start of a journey that would enable me to travel to different countries and make many new bear friends and collectors. I designed a collection of just mohair miniature teddy bears and these quickly sold out and shops placed orders. I then realised I would need some help so my husband Simon then joined me with making the bears. This turned out to be a very good idea because now Simon has developed new techniques and skills that have given us even more ways to create new designs and characters. Some of the characters are more complex and have hand stitched leather boots and slippers. Simon has to make a sculpture first and then make moulds and then the parts are cast in the moulds then pressed. This is highly skilled and specialised labour. Our prices reflect this effort and the high quality of materials that go into producing our work.
We have exhibited at many international shows in Germany, America and Japan. We are delighted to have won awards in all of these countries and whole collections have been purchased for displays in Museums.
In 1996 Mr Sekiguchi owner of Teddy Girl the famous bear who once belonged to Colonel Bob Henderson. - purchased the whole of our exhibit at Hugglets Teddy Bear Fair in London for display at the Japanese Izu Museum.
More recently a large collection of our designs are displayed at the wonderful Puppenhausmuseum in Basel Switzerland.
We now make very few bears for shops apart from our very good friends at Teddy Bears of Witney for whom we make a special exclusive limited edition once a year.
We use only the best quality mohair from Germany or antique vintage mohair when it can be found! This makes the bears look so like the old antique bears.
We like to make very small editions 0f 5-10 pieces. One of a kinds and private commissions are also available.
Each year we produce our own mail order collectors pack hand made by ourselves which contains postcard sized prints of our latest collection of bears ,animals and characters. Should you wish to be added to our mailing list or receive web updates please contact us with your details. Thanks for visiting……..
Warm Wishes Paula & Simon
